2023 GMC Yukon XL

The 2023 GMC Yukon XL is a three-row SUV offered in five trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali, and Denali Ultimate. As the name suggests, it's the longer version of the popular Yukon SUV in the GMC lineup. It has a 130-inch wheelbase, versus the 116-inch wheelbase on the standard Yukon, and is 20.5 inches longer. Exterior features on the SLE trim include 18-inch wheels, LED headlights, and proximity keyless entry with keyless ignition. The XLT tacks on 20-inch wheels and a hands-free liftgate. For off-roading, the AT4 boasts front tow hooks, dark gray wheels equipped with all-terrain tires, a unique front fascia that improves the approach angle, adaptive suspension dampers, and hill descent control. You can also add an electronic limited-slip differential and air-controlled suspension system. The Denali Ultimate has 22-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, power side steps, and an upgraded trailering package.

The lower three trim levels have a capable 5.3-liter V-8 engine that produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. You can upgrade the AT4 trim to include a 6.2-liter V-8 engine rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This unit comes standard on the Denali and Denali Ultimate. A third option is available on the SLE, SLT, and Denali trims. This unit, a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6, makes 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. All three engines pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

On all trim levels but the AT4, rear-wheel drive is the standard configuration. Since the AT4 is the most off-road-ready of the bunch, it comes with four-wheel drive as standard. You can upgrade any of the other four trims to include GMC's four-wheel-drive system. For towing, the Max Trailering package is a must-have. It bundles a trailer brake controller, a two-speed active transfer case, and a heavy-duty cooling system. Additional exterior cameras are also available, which provide a view of the trailer from inside the cabin.

With a spacious cabin and large cargo area, the Yukon XL is a great car for bigger families or those with a lot of gear. Even the SLE's cabin comes with seating for eight, cloth upholstery, and a 10.2-inch touch screen. The SLT adds a few upgrades, such as heated and ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad, leather upholstery, and a premium Bose sound system. The AT4 has a heated steering wheel, a power-folding third row, and driver's seat memory settings. Choosing the Denali takes the capacity to seven as the second row has bucket seats instead of a bench. Upgraded interior trim and upholstery, a premium sound system, and massaging front seats come standard on the Denali Ultimate.

All Yukon XL models include forward-collision mitigation and lane-keeping assist, along with passive features like a rearview camera, air bags throughout the cabin, anti-lock brakes, and stability and traction control. The base trim is available with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, which come standard on the higher trims. Additional safety options include a surround-view camera system, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, rear automatic braking, and a digital rearview mirror.
