2023 Buick Encore GX
Now in its fourth year of production, the 2023 Buick Encore GX takes over for the discontinued smaller Encore and becomes the automaker's smallest SUV. Since Buick only makes SUVs now, the Encore GX is its smallest vehicle. This subcompact SUV is easy to operate, has a surprising amount of space, and features numerous standard driver-assistance features.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2023 Buick Encore GX is available in three trims: Preferred, Select, and Essence. The only real update for the SUV compared to the outgoing version is the addition of Moonstone Gray Metallic exterior paint. It has an available hands-free power liftgate, roof rails, and LED headlights and taillights. The optional Sport Touring package adds a custom grille, 18-inch aluminum wheels, and red accents.
Engine (Power)
Under the hood of the 2023 Buick Encore GX, you'll find one of two engine options. The base 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine produces 137 horsepower. The available 2.3-liter three-cylinder engine gets 155 horsepower. Models that have front-wheel drive use a continuously variable automatic transmission, while those with all-wheel drive get a nine-speed automatic one.
Performance
Gas mileage for the 2023 Buick Encore GX is average, especially when compared to other subcompact SUVs. Those models with the base engine and front-wheel drive should get an EPA-estimated 29 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. SUVs with the larger engine and front-wheel drive achieve 29 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, while all-wheel-drive models with this engine get 26 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. Also, when properly equipped, the SUV has a maximum towing capacity of 1,000 pounds.
Interior
As a two-row SUV that has room for five people, the 2023 Buick Encore GX has spacious seating as well as plenty of headroom and legroom. Not many other vehicles in its class have as much cargo space as the Encore GX. It has 23.5 cubic feet of space behind the second row, and that number jumps to 50.2 cubic feet when you fold down those seats. Split-folding rear seats and a folding front passenger seat make loading longer items into the SUV a breeze.
Its intuitive infotainment system comes with a robust set of standard features, some of which include a Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. They're accessible via an 8-inch touchscreen display. You can also add a few advanced technology features, such as navigation, wireless smartphone charging, and HD radio.
Safety Features
Regardless of the trim, the 2023 Buick Encore GX comes with a handful of driver-assistance features to keep all travelers safe. A few of these key features include automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure warning, a following-distance indicator, and forward automatic emergency braking. It also has almost double the number of add-on safety features, such as rain-sensing windshield wipers, front and rear parking sensors, a surround-view parking camera system, and blind-spot monitoring. Because of all of these impressive safety features, the SUV earned a perfect overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
